Last Minute Details
This is the Final Informational post before our Scrappin' Away Weekend! (January 12-14, 2024)
Just a "few" things... Here is the address and phone number: The MainlandHoliday Inn Manahawkin/Long Beach Island151 Route 72 WestManahawkin, NJ 08050609-481-6100
Directions: From Tabernacle, NJ-Google Maps indicates it will take approximately 43 minutes via Route 70 to 72. So this may help you gauge your travel time for anyone who lives near me.
Arrival: Arrival at The Mainland is Friday is 12:00 noon. No one is permitted to enter the crop rooms prior to 12:00 noon, except for vendors. No exceptions. Please make sure you bring or plan your lunch ahead of time, as we will not be eating dinner until 6:00 pm. Thursday arrivals: check in is any time after 3:00 p.m. Dinner is not included in your Thursday night rate. Yes, it is probably too late to decide to arrive on Thursday as all of our lists have been finalized.
Parking/check in: Official check-in is at 3:00 pm, but you may check with the front desk to see if your room is ready. Check in is in the front of the building. You can touch base there when you arrive then will get back in your car to drive around to the back where the ballroom is. You will unload your supplies here and then move your car out into the parking lot. If you'd rather just unload your supplies first and check in later, that is your prerogative. Please do not bring your suitcases or other personal such items into the crop room as we are at maximum capacity and will have a lot of ladies arriving with their stashes.
Check out: Official check out time is at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Please check out of your room and place your luggage in your vehicle before 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. No luggage should be brought to the crop room for storage; please place all luggage in your vehicles at the time of check out. The crop room will close promptly at 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Please plan accordingly.
Meals: (See FB event page for details regarding meal options). On Saturday and Sunday, breakfast will be served inside the crop room (we have a dedicated set of tables for meals only) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brunch will be served on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Lunch will be on your own on Saturday (and Sunday if you desire.) Dinner will be served 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday night and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Saturday night. If you are not arriving until after 8:00 p.m. on Friday, please reach out to one of your friends to have them make a plate for you. I have requested GF options, please ask one of the servers to provide a plate for you.
Luggage Carts: There are luggage carts available. I will inquire about having some towards crop room for our use. I cannot guarantee that this will happen. Please return carts to the front entrance or crop room entrance for others to use.
Registration: Please stop by the hotel registration desk for your sleeping room assignments and room keys. Please go to the SAG registration table at the scrapbooking area for your table assignment and to see me, before you begin to scrap.
Internet service: There is internet service throughout the hotel. There will be login/password information available if needed.
Crop Space/Lighting: Any of you who have attended scrapbooking events at large hotels in the past know that the lighting in large rooms can be dim in some areas and bright in others. The Mainland Ballroom has fabulous lighting; however, to insure you have adequate lighting for your space, personal Ott Lights are perfect for scrapping, should you decide you need it. Power outlets are plentiful in the ballroom but please bring your surge protectors and extension cords for use amongst your group. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is better to be prepared so you can take full advantage of this weekend away. Our setup this year will be at mainly round 12-top tables. We are sitting only two per 12 table. That's approximately 6 feet per scrapper, maybe more. You can sit closer or farther apart from your friends, as you wish.
Extension Cords: The electrical outlets are abundant here. Just in case, please remember to bring electrical cords and power strips for you and your friends. We will do our best to make sure all tables have electric. We can be quite creative if necessary.
Dress: Please dress in layers. Sometimes it is cool, sometimes it is warm. Don't forget your slippers. We have 24-hour scrapping, so you can scrap in your jammies if you want. There is no need to worry about your scrap stuff as there is usually someone scrapping at all times. However, I recommend bringing your electronic devices (phones, laptops, iPads, cameras, etc.) up with you when you go to your room, especially since we are in a much bigger venue than we generally are.
Music: Please bring headphones for your radio/music or keep your table music low.
Electronic Cutting Systems: If you have a Cricut or some other cutting system, you may want to bring a small table (like a tv/snack table). I cannot guarantee that there will be an extra spot or tables available for your tools since we are at maximum capacity for this crop weekend. I will try to accommodate your sitting areas for the extra table as long as it does not interfere with aisles/exits.
Church: There are several churches in the area. Please check with the front desk for this information.
Alcohol: Will be available at an onsite bar for purchase. Please tip your bartender well for good service.
Clothing (T-shirts and Sweatshirts) Sale: All S*A*G gear was to be pre-purchased. The link for purchasing shirts/sweatshirts for delivery to your home after our weekend is: Scrappers' Anonymous Getaway Store. Scrappin' Away 2024 shirts/sweatshirts/hoodies are still available for purchase, but you will not receive until after you return home from our weekend crop. We also still have available for purchase (online only) the shirt from 2019 through current.
Drinking/Eating at your scrap tables: Please be careful - you don't want any spills on your work or your neighbor's work. A covered travel cup/mug is highly recommended. Ice Water will be available most of the time. If you wish other things to drink throughout the day, you can either bring your own beverages or see the bar area for soft drinks and/or alcoholic drinks. Please bring your travel cups.
Entertainment: The hotel facility provides a fitness area for your use and indoor pool too (Bring your swimsuits!!) Maggie Christy of Muse's Touch will be available for massages. Sign ups have started but there are a few slots available if you'd like to sign up. Click this link to sign up: Muse's Touch Massage Request 2024. As well, we'll have our "sock exchange" on Saturday night (see FB Event page for more info).
Each pod of tables will be set near a waste basket. Please clean up your scrap area periodically, so I do not have to. Remember, anything left behind will be photographed and posted on Facebook. Retrieval of any "lost" items will be your responsibility.
Rooms: You do not have to bring any linen, unless you have a special pillow/pillowcase. All rooms include a Keurig coffee maker (bring K-cups and your favorite creamer), in-room safe, refrigerator, and flat screen television. The bathroom features a simple tub/shower combination with sample size toiletries and hair dryer.
Vendors: We will have several vendors on the premises. If you forget or need something, don't worry - it should be there for purchase. The vendors will have Tally sheets available, so you can "settle" with them at the end of the weekend. You may also let your friends/family know that if they would like to shop with our vendors, they can do so on Saturday between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm Please have them check in with me (Lisa) when they arrive. The vendors are: CM (Lisa/Debra), CTMH (Tonya), Stampin' Up (Jackie), Scrapbooking by Debbie (Debbie - Friday only), Kits Are My Specialty (Mary - Saturday/Sunday), Kristie will have Girl Scout Cookies and maybe Scentsy, massages by Maggie Christy of Muse's Touch throughout the weekend. I hope I didn't forget anyone. If I did, I apologize.
Classes: Several of our vendors will have classes (for a fee) available to you. Please take advantage of this opportunity to learn/try new things. Take a look at each vendor's classes on the FB event page and sign up now or when you arrive.
The Elephant in the room: COVID. Right now we do not have any special requirements in the crop room (masks or vaccination requirements.) At this time, we are not aware of any hotel requirements nor NJ State mandates concerning same. It is our position that everyone who is attending is an adult. We all know and recognize our own comfort level. Each person can mask (single, double, whatever your personal choice is) or not mask. You can mask when walking around or when you are at your table too. You may choose whatever makes you the most comfortable. The most important thing is that we will have a judgement free zone. Let everyone choose their own comfort level. We will have approximately 75+ ladies in a 10,000 square foot ballroom. There is plenty of space for social distancing as far or as little as you'd like.
A question did come in about dining options. As always, there will be a buffet style for all meals included with the weekend crop cost. If you are not comfortable eating in the area that will be set up for meals in the crop room (10 12-top tables will be reserved specifically for meals), please feel free to bring your own meal containers to grab your meal from the buffet and take it to your room/seat to eat. The lunch on your own on Saturday (and Sunday if you're staying all day) - places around are plentiful, even in the off-season. Your choices include but are not limited to (and are all within 2-15 minutes) Applebees, IHOP, Wendy's, KFC, McDonalds, the hotel restaurant/pub (really good!!) Jersey Mike's, at least two diners, Olive Garden, Shop Rite, Walmart, Costco, Target, as well as many local pizzerias, steakhouses and comfort food restaurants nearby.
Facebook: If you haven't joined our Facebook page, please do so. This is a very easy way for me to inform scrappers of upcoming events and scrapbooking specials. Here is the link: S*A*G FACEBOOK GROUP
If you have any concerns with the hotel/banquet facility/staff, please bring it to MY attention. I cannot address it and correct it if I do not know about it.
Okay, I think that's it. If you have any questions that I haven't covered, please let me know. Donna and I are heading over on Thursday night.
We are looking forward to a fun weekend!!! Can't wait to scrap with you!
